There is a sense of romance and pride that comes
from shaping rare, historic woods into individual works
of art. It is a wonderful legacy for us and for our
clients.
There are no shortcuts. Each dovetail is hand chiseled.
Today other furniture has large box cuts without the
strength or beauty of this old technique.
To our furniture makers, the real beauty of this furniture
is the marriage of the antique heart pine and cherry.
We ensure that thin lines in the tight-grained heart
pine legs flow down each piece, while cherry tops give
added color and grace. Drawer sides are also heart pine,
with aromatic cedar on the bottom for lightness and
aroma. Heart pine inlay ties it together and hardware
is simply turned.
Available in limited quantities, this furniture is certain
to appreciate in value. Signed and numbered, each piece is
accompanied by a history of the wood and joinery.
"There is a tendency among the inexperienced to make the angle of the
sides too acute. Such dovetails, though appearing strong, are really weaker than
if cut more nearly parallel. Thus, the smaller dovetail is much stronger and of
better appearance than the larger, because in the first case the fibers of the
wood are less cut across than in the second."

Easy to care for finish
One of most satisfying parts of this work is applying
the finish. The grain of the wood comes to life the
moment the oil touches the surface. We use a mixture
of oils and wax that is flexible, adds hardness and
is easy to maintain. Compared to sprayed-on finishes
that chip over time, you never have to replace this
finish. All you ever have to do is clean and possibly
wax.
Color enrichment in natural woods
There are three shades to any natural wood product after
it receives a finish. At the beginning the wood is lighter;
then after a brief exposure to light, it turns another subtle
shade. Finally, it becomes a full rich color after months
or years of life. There is a certain joy that comes with watching
your heirloom transform in the front of your eyes.

Yesterday's tradition - today's common sense
It was the joinery that people valued so highly and
that makes today's antiques still sturdy. We produce
furniture that is not only elegant and useful; it also
is strong and durable and stands the test of time.
