I so enjoy presenting Goodwin’s continuing education course, Reclaimed Wood… Architectural and Design Uses, to building design professionals. And New Orleans is a very exciting and eclectic place, so this week’s presentation was especially fun!
Goodwin’s reclaimed wood often wins the distinction of Wood Floor of the Year by the National Wood Floor Association. And, many Goodwin clients open their doors for us to photograph their beautiful reclaimed wood floors. Gorgeous reclaimed wood floor photographs certainly help bring a new dimension to the presentation. The “wood science” discussion literally comes to life against a backdrop of beautiful, historical and durable reclaimed wood flooring.
A five-foot medallion and 1887 hand drawn map of Florida’s Forests help illustrate how we back seal the wood to prevent movement, especially in areas where excess humidity is expected. We also discuss installation techniques for four-foot diameter River Recovered® Heart Cypress log rounds inlaid into a Curly Heart Pine foyer. And, let’s not forget finish options on reclaimed wood for a fourteen-foot medallion of ‘precision engineered’ River Recovered® Antique Heart Pine Classic wood flooring cut into fish designs in a beautiful hunting lodge.
We’ve scheduled upcoming presentations in Knoxville, Palm Beach, Birmingham and Atlanta. If you are a building design professional, feel free to call us for more information about Goodwin’s continuing education program on Reclaimed Wood. We would love to present to your esteemed team of professionals!
