Antique Heart Pine and Heart Cypress – Two Woods That “Work” in Commercial Spaces

Goodwin partners with building design professionals throughout the country on both new construction and remodeled commercial spaces.  Antique heart pine and heart cypress are two of the industry’s preferred wood species because of their unique qualities, extraordinary beauty, and rich history.

You may recall a past article highlighting the use of Goodwin’s antique wood in the boardroom and lobby entrance of an esteemed financial institution in Chiefland, Florida.  The Drummond Bank project is now complete, and we have some gorgeous photos to share!

This incredible 56”x 21’ double slab River-Recovered® Heart Cypress conference table with live edges is the focal point of their new boardroom.

Goodwin partner, Dan Petersen of Heritage Wood Finish Company, designed and handcrafted the massive table from logs that were cut down well over a century ago. They rested on the bottom of the Florida panhandle’s Apalachicola River until they were recently recovered.

We then milled and manufactured this beautiful Vintage Precision Engineered floor for the lobby entryway at the new Drummond headquarters. The floor is 5-1/4″ on the face and finished with low sheen Diamond 7 by Heritage Wood Finish Company.

The General Contractor on the project was Gray Construction of Trenton, Florida.  The architect was Joe Hafner of Hafner/Ferlita Architects in Tampa.  The design was spearheaded by Mary Beth Courier of Studio Courier.

One-of-a Kind River-Recovered® Heart Cypress Table

Dan Petersen (Heritage Wood Finish Company) handcrafted this gorgeous River-Recovered® Heart Cypress table for the newly built boardroom of the Drummond Bank headquarters in Chiefland, Florida.  Goodwin and Heritage Wood Finish Company partnered to create this massive boardroom conference table measuring 21’ long and an average 56″ wide.

This River-Recovered Heart Cypress table will be the centerpoint of Drummond Bank’s Floridiana themed board room.  It comfortably seats 12 and will be outfitted with charging and other technology ports to accommodate smartphones, tablets and computers.

The table was crafted from two River-Recovered Heart Cypress slabs sawn from logs retrieved out of the Apalachicola River then married together. The 21’ length was achieved by attaching “bread board” ends perpendicularly to the married slabs. Live edges grace the length of both sides and the ends of the table.

The surface features beautiful, swirling, feathery grain patterns with deep rich chocolate hues which is synonymous with antique Heart Cypress.  The entire table is finished in oil.

The bank will also feature a 200sf front lobby entrance of Vintage Precision Engineered heart pine flooring.
