I first met Wally Conway, featured inspector on the HGTV series, “House Detective” and host of “The Home and Garden” radio show (http://www.GoHomePro.com), several years ago.  We were excited to have such a recognized and respected home expert take interest in our wood.  Wally came to us some years later interested in building a custom dining room table using our River-Recovered® Heart Cypress. Of course, we were thrilled to have an opportunity to work with Wally and honored to be creating this beautiful masterpiece for his home.

First, we had to select the wood:

Then, the construction process began – George, Andrew, the rest of the Goodwin team and I got to work!

First, we cut the base/legs.  This was the easy part – just one heart cypress log quartered.  Sorry the photo is a little blurry, but you can get the general idea:

We crafted the top of the table from one slab of wood cut in half crosswise.  We left one natural edge and squared the other edge (making it straight). The squared edges of the two pieces were then attached with glue and a biscuit joint on the inside and a dutchman on the outside.
We finished it with a stunning Rubio MONOCOAT (penetrating hardening oil, flaxseed oil-based).
The final product was both beautiful and unique, with natural edges on the long sides and straight edges on the short sides.
Then, after 2-3 weeks, we had a final product.  Look how beautiful it looks in Wally’s dining room:

And, Wally was very pleased!

This custom, labor intensive process required special skills.
Although furniture is not our specialty and we typically don’t offer this type of product, we did enjoy the challenge.  We can help you choose and purchase the right wood from our stock if you would like to try to make one yourself!
