We are often asked if wood flooring is suitable for kitchens.  Our answer – YES!!

In fact, some of the most beautiful kitchens in the world feature heart pine flooring.  Below are some photos of a kitchen inside a home (circa 1927) located in Gainesville, Florida.  The original flooring was strip oak, which was common for that time period.  The floor needed replaced after a flood so the homeowner decided to replace it with Goodwin’s LEGACY building reclaimed heart pine.  As you can see, it is gorgeous! We even provided a matching heart pine top for a baker’s cart, which turned out to be a nice complement.

We find people are sometimes apprehensive to use wood in the kitchen because they are afraid of how it will react if something is spilled.  While this is a genuine concern with any species – reclaimed or otherwise – when a spill is addressed promptly, there are generally no issues. You can also add a quality, high-end finish to provide extra protection from surface scratches and even the occasional fork drop.  In fact, Goodwin’s new, specially formulated Diamond finish is second in hardness only to diamonds, making it perfect for high traffic areas.
