Character includes slight imperfections that differentiate every single piece from the rest. Common characteristics include checks, cracks, sap stains, larger and more frequent knots, and a wide variety of color variations. Offered in our River-Recovered® Heart Pine, Heart Cypress, and our Legacy collection. Character is the perfect choice for a natural aesthetic and works in any area.

With the trend of natural products and sustainability on the rise, buyers want to know where their products are coming from. Here at Goodwin, our sustainability starts early on. Instead of throwing out wood with flaws that don’t quite make the clearer grades criteria, we save the wood and categorize it as Character when grading standards are met. We aim to give each handcrafted piece a purpose and new home.

Character Wood is more affordable, too! Other grades, like select and clear have strict grading standards and are harder to acquire. Character wood has many looks and a broader range of characteristics. Grading standards are not as strict, making accessibility easier and more cost-effective.
