Video Re-Cap of IBS

We had a blast last week at the International Builders’ Show (IBS) in Orlando, Florida.  We were proud to have the opportunity to exhibit alongside so many esteemed companies and enjoyed demonstrating how antique wood is being incorporated in contemporary design.

We also ran into a few of our good friends, including Matt Marwick of Precision Floorcrafters, the team from WOCA USA and Norm Abram from This Old House and New Yankee Workshop.

Goodwin’s Marketing Manager, Jeffrey Forbes, produced this video re-cap.  Enjoy!

Southeast Building Conference (SEBC) – We Had a BLAST!

Goodwin had an incredible time talking with old friends and meeting new ones at the 2017 Southeast Building Conference (SEBC) held at the beautiful Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center in Kissimmee, Florida. We displayed some of our new products, including pre-finished River-Recovered® and reclaimed heart pine and heart cypress. Many of the people we spoke with confirmed that sinker cypress feature walls are all the rage, as more and more homeowners and businesses are exploring adding them to their home and offices.

Goodwin’s marketing manager, Jeffrey Forbes, produced a short video of highlights from the show. Enjoy!

American Institute of Architects (AIA) Convention Re-Cap

Goodwin had a wonderful time making new friends and seeing old ones at the 2017 AIA Convention in Orlando, Florida.  We were pleased to exhibit alongside numerous luxury and high end manufacturers, all showing off the latest architectural products and design trends.  It was refreshing to see just how popular antique wood is in contemporary design. More and more architects are specifying wood for projects outside the scope of historical renovation.  In fact, reclaimed wood kitchen floors, cypress wood walls and antique wood paneling were some of the hottest 2017 contemporary design trends featured at the convention.

For those of you who could not be there, our Marketing Manager, Jeffrey Forbes, produced this video to give you an inside look at the convention. Enjoy!

Tree Fest at Swamphead Brewery

Goodwin was proud to be a corporate sponsor of the 3rd Annual Tree Fest , a yearly event to benefit the Alachua Conservation Trust.  Tree Fest, presented by Solar Impact, was hosted by our friends over at Swamphead Brewery. We were excited to collaborate with owner Luke Kemper and marketing director Brandon Nappy on this event.

A few years back, Goodwin provided our antique wood for Swamphead Brewery’s tasting room, affectionately named, “The Wetlands”. The focal point of the room is the feature wall behind the bar which represents every wood Goodwin offers.

Swamphead

The bar top is absolutely gorgeous and was handcrafted from heart cypress and heart pine log rounds hand scribed into one another for a 3D effect.

Swamphead

The seating area is clad in Goodwin’s River-Recovered® Heart Cypress Character, while the window surrounds are a mix of naily heart pine and select heart cypress.

It was exciting for us to see just how much Swamphead Brewery has grown into becoming a staple in the Gainesville community.  We were certainly honored to partner with them on Tree Fest.

Oh, and Amy Lamb of Native House Photography recently took some incredible photos of Swamphead Brewery.  Be sure to check them out:

Goodwin is Having a Blast at NWFA!

Carol Goodwin and Dan Petersen are enjoying seeing old friends and meeting new ones at the 2017 National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA) Expo in Phoenix, Arizona. Carol and Dan are displaying Goodwin’s new install ready products featuring custom colors, textures and environmentally friendly finishes formulated specifically for resinous antique River-Recovered® and reclaimed wood:

  • Zero to very low volatile compounds
  • Second in hardness only to diamonds
  • Customizable to fit your specific design needs
  • Child, pet and environmentally friendly

According to Carol, builders and building design professionals have requested install ready products in the past but they were difficult to offer due to the resinous nature of antique wood.  Now, new finishes formulated specifically for Goodwin allow the company to deliver custom crafted, install ready products to their clients.

Come by and say “hi” to Dan and Carol today and tomorrow (April 13th and 14th) at the Phoenix Convention Center in Phoenix, Arizona.  They are at booth #923.  You will want to see samples of this beautiful wood.

Everyone Learned a lot at the NWFA Certified Sales Professional Class

The NWFA Certified Sales Professional Class held at Goodwin Company last week was well received by all. Even 40-year veterans such as Gary Smith of Custom Hardwood and myself garnered new knowledge and tips. Instructor Roy Reichow, National Wood Floor Consultants, was personable and engaging while sharing a great deal of expertise.

Roy drew wide eyes when he showed the class his “Stop Light” flyer explaining the relationship of relative humidity and flooring moisture content.  Jeffrey Forbes, Goodwin’s Marketing Coordinator said to me, “We need to save that flyer.”   The class was appreciative of the information.  I sympathized as I, too, felt the same after taking my first wood floor inspector class 15 years ago. Once you know everything that can go wrong when sales staff and installers are not informed and properly trained, it’s only natural to have a certain level of fear.

Roy restored a lot of confidence, however, when presenting his detailed Pre-Sale Checklist. In addition to the 180 technical slides from the National Wood Floor Association Class, Roy taught us how to document in-depth information about client preferences and site conditions to reduce the chance of a problem.

Goodwin Company is known for our precision milling and good fit. Roy complimented us on the design of our reclaimed engineered floor construction and how it avoids delamination in dry climates by placing the tongue and groove below the dark layer of the plywood that runs lengthwise. The lighter colored grain runs across the floor instead of down the length so can peel more easily.

Thanks Roy. You are a very helpful and entertaining instructor.  I think I speak for everyone when I say we certainly enjoyed your class!
